The Calypso bean, also called the “Yin Yang” or “Orca” bean, is a true visual standout. Each bean is split cleanly down the middle — one side deep black, the other creamy white — like a perfect yin-yang symbol or a tiny cowhide. Some beans even have speckled or swirled patches where the two colors meet, giving each seed a unique, marbled look.
They’re small, oval, and plump — about the size of a thumbnail — with a smooth, glossy finish. When cooked, Calypso beans hold their shape beautifully and develop a creamy texture with an earthy, nutty flavor that pairs well with soups, stews, and salads.

📍 Location: Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Calypso beans are bush-type beans, so they don’t need trellising.

Beans were missing in my order.
I’m sure the beans are great, I just didn’t receive them. When my envelope came from the post office, it said “received unsealed” and the Prescott Fond Blanc seeds were inside, but no calypso beans 😞. I will try to reorder them, I think they’d make a fun addition to our bean stash.
