Minimum Seed Count: 25
A rare heirloom treasure from Oaxaca, Mexico, this vibrant green corn is as beautiful as it is versatile. Traditionally grown for its deep green kernels used in masa and tortillas, Oaxacan Green Corn can also be enjoyed as a sweet corn when picked young — tender, flavorful, and packed with heritage. As the ears mature, the kernels deepen in color, making it an incredible dual-purpose variety for both fresh eating and traditional use. A stunning addition to any garden, celebrating the rich agricultural legacy of southern Mexico! One of the most beautiful varieties we have grown!
🌱 Planting Guide:
-
Soil & Sun: Prefers rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Add compost before planting for best growth.
-
Planting: Sow seeds directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and soil temps are above 60°F. Plant 1 inch deep and 8–10 inches apart in rows 30–36 inches apart.
-
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during germination and ear formation.
-
Fertilizing: Side-dress with compost or an organic fertilizer when plants reach 12 inches tall and again when tassels form.
-
Pollination Tip: For full, even ears, plant in blocks of at least 4 rows rather than a single long row.
-
Harvest: Pick young for sweet, tender corn or allow to mature fully for traditional green masa or cornmeal.
-
Days to Maturity: 90–100 days depending on use and climate.
