The Aji Mango pepper is a bright and fruity variety from the Capsicum baccatum family, cherished for its tropical flavor and playful heat. Its name comes from the distinct mango-like sweetness that shines through with every bite, balanced by a medium heat that lingers pleasantly without overpowering. The peppers are slender, elongated, and ripen from green to a glowing golden-orange, resembling the sunny hue of ripe mangoes. Plants are vigorous and productive, often yielding heavy clusters of pods that hang like ornaments. Aji Mango peppers are excellent for fresh eating, salsas, hot sauces, or drying, where their unique tropical taste really shines. With their vibrant color and sweet-spicy kick, they bring both beauty and flavor to the garden and kitchen.

Heat Level: 20,000–30,000 Scoville Heat Units (medium heat, similar to a cayenne but softened by fruity sweetness).

Planting Guide:

  • Start Indoors: Begin seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost. Keep soil warm (75–85°F) for best germination.
  • Transplanting: Harden off seedlings and transplant outdoors once nighttime temperatures stay above 55°F. Space plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun.
  • Soil Needs: Well-draining, fertile soil enriched with compost. Ideal pH is 6.0–6.8.
  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulching helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
  • Fertilization: Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks to encourage strong growth and heavy yields.
  • Growth Habit: Plants can reach 3–4 feet tall with a spreading habit. Staking or caging may help support heavy clusters of fruit.
  • Harvest: Fruits ripen from green to a bright orange-gold. Pick regularly to encourage continuous production.

The Aji Mango pepper thrives in warm, sunny gardens and rewards growers with abundant harvests of sweet, tropical-flavored peppers perfect for fresh dishes, hot sauces, or drying.
