The Farmer’s Market Jalapeño is a unique and eye-catching variety that stands out from standard jalapeños. Instead of the smooth green or red skin most people expect, this pepper has a heirloom look with crackled, corky striationsrunning across its surface, giving it a rustic, farm-stand charm. The fruits are medium-sized, typically 2–3 inches long, with a classic jalapeño shape but a much more artisanal appearance.

Flavor-wise, it offers the familiar jalapeño heat and crispness, perfect for salsas, pickling, stuffing, or adding a kick to any dish. Its striking look makes it especially popular at markets, where it draws attention and highlights that “grown with care” feel.

🌱 Planting Guide:

When to Plant:

  • Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before your last frost date.

  • Transplant outdoors once nighttime temps stay above 55°F (13°C) and soil is warm.

Soil Requirements:

  • Well-draining soil enriched with compost.

  • pH between 6.2–7.0.

  • Warm soil (70–85°F) is key for germination.

How to Plant:

  • Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in seed trays or pots.

  • Keep soil consistently moist and warm.

  • Thin or transplant seedlings when 2–3 sets of true leaves appear.

  • Space plants 18–24 inches apart in rows about 24–36 inches apart.

Sun & Water:

  • Full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily).

  • Water deeply but avoid waterlogging; peppers like steady moisture but not soggy soil.

Care Tips:

  • Mulch to conserve moisture and keep soil warm.

  • Stake plants if they grow heavy with fruit.

  • Fertilize lightly with a balanced or slightly phosphorus-rich fertilizer once fruiting begins.

Harvesting:

  • Peppers are ready in 70–80 days from transplant.

  • Pick when they reach full size (2–3 inches) and show the beautiful corky striations.

  • Harvest green for a classic jalapeño flavor or let ripen to red for a sweeter, hotter kick.

Bonus Tip: The more often you pick peppers, the more the plant will produce! 🌶️
