The Rhino DD pepper is a fierce and extremely rare superhot variety that stands out for its gnarled, horn-like shape and blistering heat. The pods often form with sharp points or “rhino horn” tails, giving them a wild and intimidating appearance. When ripe, they mature to a brilliant red, sometimes with wrinkled, bumpy skin that signals just how fiery they are.

Developed by growers who specialize in extreme heat peppers, the Rhino DD packs a searing punch that rivals the hottest superhots, making it best suited for hot sauce making, powders, or adventurous chili heads looking to test their limits. Despite its intensity, the pepper also carries subtle fruity and earthy undertones that can shine through when used sparingly.

The plants themselves are vigorous and high-yielding, producing heavy clusters of these dramatic, horned pods throughout the season. A true showstopper in any superhot collection.

🌱 Planting Guide:

Start Indoors:

  • Sow seeds indoors 10–12 weeks before your last frost date.

  • Plant ¼ inch deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix.

  • Keep soil temps 80–90°F for reliable germination (superhots may take 2–4 weeks to sprout).

Transplanting:

  • Move seedlings outdoors once nights stay above 60°F.

  • Harden off before planting in the garden or large pots.

  • Space plants 24 inches apart in full sun.

Soil & Water:

  • Rich, fertile, well-draining soil with added compost works best.

  • Keep evenly moist but never waterlogged.

  • Mulching helps retain soil moisture and stabilize temperature.

Care:

  • Support plants with stakes or cages once heavy with pods.

  • Fertilize every 2–3 weeks with a balanced or potassium-rich feed.

  • Prune lightly for airflow and healthy growth.

Harvest:

  • Fruits ripen from green to a vivid red with wild, horned shapes.

  • Wear gloves when harvesting—these peppers pack extreme heat.

Heat Level:

  • Superhot range – often exceeding 1,000,000+ Scoville Heat Units (SHU), comparable to some of the world’s hottest peppers.
